Information on the processing of personal data by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and consular offices on the Croatian Consular Portal



Information on the processing of personal data on the Croatian Consular Portal by the MFEA and its consular posts.

This information ensures compliance with the obligation laid down in Article 13 and Article 14 of the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC, hereinafter referred to as the “GDPR” (OJ EU L 119 of 4.05.2016, p. 1 and OJ EU L 127 of 23.05.2018, p. 2).

  1. Within the meaning of Article. 4(7) of the GDPR, the controller of personal data is the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs seated in Croatia, Zagreb while the duties of controller are performed by the head of the competent consular posts.

  3. In the case of applying for a national or Schengen visa in connection with Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 July 2009 establishing a Community Code on Visas, personal data are processed under Article 6(1)(c) of the GDPR and pursuant to the Foreigners Act of 12 December 2013, while in the case of making appointments at consular posts data are processed under Article 6(1)(e) of the GDPR.
  4. The scope of personal data processing covers data included in the visa application and data necessary for making an appointment at the consular post.
  5. Personal data referred to in point 4. above shall be submitted by the applicant making an appointment at a consular post, or by a person acting on their behalf.
  6. Providing the personal data is voluntary but necessary in order to make an appointment at a consular post via the Croatian Consular Portal.
  7. The personal data are protected by the MFEA data controller pursuant to the provisions of the GDPR regulations and cannot be available to third parties. The authorised employees of the MFEA and diplomatic posts have access to the personal data.
  8. The personal data of applicant will not be transferred to a third country or to any international organisation. Data provided in the visa application will be further processed according to procedures for issuing, withdrawing, cancelling or extending a national or Schengen visa, or for reconsidering a visa application.
  9. Data subject can exercise their rights in relation with processing of personal data, as specified in Articles 15 -19 of the GDPR, (the right to access and rectify their personal data, the right to removal, restriction of processing), and in Article 21., right to object, if applicable.
  10. Personal data will not be processed by automated means in a manner that could affect the process of making decisions capable of producing legal effects or that could otherwise create a significant impact on the data subject. The data subject will not be subject to profiling.
